Euro-MPs have today voted for wide ranging energy efficiency savings and have called for tougher action to be taken on reaching EU emissions targets.
With Consumers facing one of the coldest winters in years and with energy bills set to rise once again, efficiency of buildings is now a top priority as 40% of all energy consumption is used this way.
South West MEP Graham Watson has consistently campaigned to drive forward energy efficiency, reducing CO2 in order to stimulate a green economy and creating new sustainable jobs for the South West.
As well as calling for radical changes to energy efficiency in public transport, haulage and building renovation, the proposals also include the promotion of the European High Voltage Direct Current (EHVD), a policy Watson has advocated to utilise renewable energy across Europe.
'This vote is another step forward in creating a sustainable energy plan that will not only reduce our dependency on fossil fuels, but will also help tackle wasted energy in buildings. That can only be good thing for the pockets of South West householder when prices are due to increase by an average of 6% this winter alone.'
